What is Art Intervention?
It’s pretty simple really, it’s intervention using an art approach. The words art intervention can sound complicated, but actually, they’re not.
At FGC, art intervention is about creating a different kind of space for young people. A space where they don’t always need to find the answers, explain everything or work out exactly what is going on.
Sometimes, they simply need space to breathe.
Take a young person who is experiencing multiple shifts in their current life. Changes, transitions and uncertainty can create a lot to process, and sometimes the most helpful thing isn’t another question or another conversation about what is happening.

Sometimes, it’s about slowing everything down.
Art can provide that space. It can offer a way to ground, express, connect and communicate without everything having to be put into words. It can give the brain a chance to pause while the hands, imagination and senses take over.
This is what art intervention can look like at FGC.
It isn’t always about finding answers or drilling deeper into the brain. It isn’t about pushing for a breakthrough or trying to solve everything within a single session.
Sometimes, FGC sessions are simply about holding space:
Space to breathe.
Space to talk.
Space to make.
Space to be.

Because intervention doesn’t always have to feel like intervention. Sometimes, the most meaningful work happens when a young person feels safe enough to simply stop, breathe and be exactly where they are.
